Mid-December Knit-Along Dishcloth

Well, I goofed it up, but mine was growing to dishtowel proportions anyway (gauge issues I guess), so I decided this looked like a good stopping point, and went ahead and put the last border rows on it. I can see where I missed a yarn-over now, but doubt I’d have been able to find my place to start it over – I tried, it didn’t happen… So, since it’s “just a dishcloth” I gave myself permission to call it “done.”

It really is a cute dishcloth, and the pattern for it can be found here (but you will need to join the YahooGroup MonthlyDishcloths in order to gain access to the pattern). One of these days, I’m going to figure out the mystery that is lace knitting (beyond feather and fan). Maybe. Or maybe not.

Another Dishcloth

or two…

Kind of on the cutesy side. The top one is a teapot, next is little pink hearts. They’re going in the gift stash. I’m liking the idea of stockpiling these for hostess gifts, or in the case of an upcoming bridal shower or anniversary, it will be fun to have something already made up ahead of time. Just hope to be able to convince the candidate(s) that they really can learn to love the color pink as long as it’s a really handy thing like a dishcloth. Links to these patterns (or the actual patterns themselves) can be found by joining the Monthlydishcloths group in YahooGroups.

Dragonfly dishcloth

This is one of my favorite designs. I guess dragonflies are kind of popular right now, but I’ve always been fascinated with them. I’m enjoying the little quickie projects, making dishcloths for wedding/anniversary gifts. This pattern can be found at PurpleDuckie.com.

Clever, Ingenious and Funny!

On the needles

A friend of ours recently got married and we will be attending the wedding reception soon, more friends are celebrating anniversaries. It seemed like a good excuse for me to get back to dishcloth knitting. I guess it helped that I already had the yarn waiting to be used, and things are tight enough that it’s not an option to just go buy something. Anyway, I resurrected the dishcloth links like Dishcloth Boutique, and of course there’s a wealth of patterns and links available from the Yahoo Group MonthlyDishcloths (Knit-A-Long), like KnittingKnonsense.com among many others. So far, one dishcloth, and one potholder done. Guess I’d better pick up the speed a little.

Knitty Gritty

Well, the upcoming season of Knitty Gritty sure seems to be shaping up nicely!  I keep running across posts of some of my favorite Knit Bloggers saying they’re getting ready to go tape a show with Vickie Howell on Knitty Gritty.

Amy from Knitty is heading out soon to tape her show, as are Annie Modesitt (am I the last one to finally notice Wendy from Knit & Tonic is one of the “Knitsters” in Annie’s Corset-T show??),  StichyMcYarnPants (that should be good!), Herself:  Stephanie (Yarn Harlot) Pearl-McFee!!! and Stefanie Japel from Glampyre Knits are all in the throes of either getting ready for or packing for their spots on the show.  Looks like next season will be even better than ever.

Baby Surprise Jacket

BSJ1

I’m working on Elizabeth Zimermann’s Baby Surprise jacket.  It is such an ingenious idea that I just couldn’t resist.  I got the supplies for it as a kit from Schoolhouse Press.  I made a bunch of rookie mistakes on it, but since it was such a puzzle to me, I didn’t really know what to do to fix it.  It came out pretty cute in spite of me!

I-cord close upI used an applied I-cord to finish the edges.  Since I didn’t have a double-point needle handy, but DID have a shorter circular needle handy – even though it was a sizesmaller than the one I was using to knit the BSJ I used it for my DPN.    I can’t really say I’d recommend doing that, because it does kind of pull in the edges a little tighter than you may want, especially with something done comlpetely in garter stitch, but I like the looks of it.  Actually, I kind of wish I’d used this size needle to knit the jacket in….

So, need I say, it was a learning experience?  :-)

I love the smell of the Jameison & Smith shetland yarn.  It reminds me of when I had sheep to care for.  Hope my son and DIL don’t mind their new baby smelling “sheepy” every now and then.  This was the first time I’ve used this yarn.  It reminds me of homespun and I absolutely love it.
